Version 5.8g Download

The current release version of BiblioTECH is 5.8g (16th March 2000)

Notes

To perform either a new installation or an upgrade, you will need a valid Registered Name/Key pair which is current and has not expired.

The update will only work if a previous BiblioTECH installation exists on the server

If you wish to view a history of changes made to the BiblioTECH software, you may view the text file here: BiblioTECH Change History

Version 5.8g provides the full installation code for BiblioTECH

It can be used to :

  • install the BiblioTECH server system onto a computer
  • upgrade from BiblioTECH versions 5.00 and above to version 5.8g

Pre-requisites:

To use this installation code, you will need your registration name and key.

  • If you are upgrading a previously installed version of BiblioTECH then the pre-existing registration name and registration key will automatically be used

However, if they have expired then they cannot be used during an installation

  • If you are unable to locate your registration name and key then contact the Help Desk - preferably by fax

The installation process requires some technical knowledge and therefore should be undertaken by experienced IT staff who are familiar with issues relating to Windows operating systems, servers and network management.

If you feel uncomfortable in undertaking the installation or if the installation process fails, you can contact the Help Desk for a quotation for on-site service

Downloading information:

The downloaded files total about 9.5 Mb. When installing, a further 20 Mb is required in a temporary directory. This can be deleted after the installation is complete.

To download the files using Internet Explorer, use the left mouse button to click on the file links below and follow the on-screen instructions to save the files to disk.  If you are using Netscape use the right mouse button to click on the file links below and choose the 'save as' option to save the files to disk.

When downloading from the Web some versions of Netscape change the file extensions from   .bin to  .exe - if this happens, rename them back.

You could download to your hard drive. If you place all the files in the one directory, and can access this hard drive from the server, you can install directly from that hard drive.

If you cannot access the hard drive directory from your server then copy the files from your hard drive to diskettes as indicated in the table below. If you need to use floppy disks then you will need freshly formatted 1.44 Mb diskettes.  (fully formated (not "Quick")).

If you intend to reinstall on a server with a different name from that originally installed, you will need to

  • Backup on the original server
  • Do a Fresh install on the new server
  • Do a  restore from backup
  • Create a new Workstation Installation Diskette on this new server
  • Reinstall ALL of your workstations from this new Workstation Installation Diskette

Each new version release of BiblioTECH contains an update to all the files (especially BTInstall.exe), therefore please download all files. Do not mix old download files with new ones.

The download time depends on the connection speed you have to the internet. As a guide, at 28.8Kbits/sec, the download time should be about 45 minutes.

If you cannot download (or do not want to download) via the Internet, you can order a CD ROM. The CD ROM, postage and handling fee is currently $45.00.
